Abstract

Maintenance management is essentially preventive management, and it is the work done to maintain or restore every facility. Proper maintenance is essential in order to reduce or eliminate all negative effects. Water supply projects are efforts that seek to supply communities with clean water to enhance public health, lessen poverty, and foster economic growth. The purpose of this research is to look into the current maintenance management practices in six user committee water supply projects in Nagarjun Municipality, Nepal. This study involves both qualitative and quantitative research design. A survey of both management committee members and consumers was conducted and KII was taken among six MMT representatives of six projects, as part of the study. The study focused on the current status of maintenance practices, perception of consumers and suggestions for enhancing management practices. The collected quantitative data was analyzed using SPSS, then interpreted and presented in tables, charts and graphs. The qualitative data was analyzed after transcribing and translating. The study found that all management committees had tenure of more than two years and followed MM guidelines. However, most projects lacked a maintenance schedule or a work plan and were managed on a case-by-case basis. Furthermore, the majority of consumers believed that there was insufficient community drinking water supply, and regular maintenance checks on the water supply infrastructure were not performed. The main reoccurring maintenance problem that needs to be addressed is pipe leakage. Consumers advocated for increased community ownership and participation, collaboration with other sectors, and the creation of a comprehensive plan for improving maintenance management practices. The study focuses on the value of community involvement and communication channels for the sustainability of water supply programs. Finally, this study concluded the importance of improved communication, community involvement, and maintenance practices to ensure the long-term viability and success of water supply projects. So, it is recommended for consistent monitoring and assessment to spot issues early on and make sure the project is on pace to achieve its objective.
