Abstract

Effective stakeholder management is crucial for the success of construction projects, particularly in the context of the Kathmandu District. This research aimed to assess current stakeholder management practices, investigate factors affecting stakeholder management, and identify response strategies to deal with stakeholders. Through surveys conducted among professionals from governmental institutions, municipalities, consultants, and contractors, significant insights were gathered. The findings underscored the importance of stakeholder management in project performance, with respondents highlighting inadequate allocation of funds and lack of standardized practices within enterprises. Engineers’ personal past experiences and professional services emerged as the most effective approaches for analyzing stakeholder concerns, while meetings and interviews were deemed the most effective methods for stakeholder engagement. Furthermore, the research identified 30 critical factors affecting stakeholder management, emphasizing the need for evaluating stakeholder power, formulating appropriate strategies, and ensuring transparent evaluation of alternative solutions based on stakeholder concerns. Mutual trust and respect among stakeholders were also highlighted as vital elements for successful stakeholder management. Response strategies to deal with stakeholders included compromising, adaptation, and influence strategies, while the dismissal strategy was rejected. Among these, the compromising strategy was deemed the most effective approach. Overall, the research underscores the significance of proactive stakeholder management practices in construction projects, emphasizing the need for structured approaches to address stakeholder concerns, foster mutual trust, and ensure project success amidst the unique challenges of the Kathmandu District.
