Abstract
This study examines how safety practices are enhancing the construction of public-school
building in Kathmandu Valley, paying particular attention to safety practices in the
construction of public-school buildings. Due to its geographic location, the area is
particularly susceptible to earthquakes, which emphasizes the need for robust infrastructure.
Numerous earthquakes in the past, including the devastating one that struck Gorkha in 2015,
brought home how urgently the nation needs to rebuild and modernize its existing structures.
The main objective of this study is, aimed to identify the present status of safety practices,
evaluate the major barriers to implement safety practices, and suggest possible remedial
measures to reduce barriers in these projects. In pursuing the objective, primary data were
collected by field observation, questionnaire survey and KII. Secondary data were collected
from articles, journals, reports and the internet. The data collected was then analyzed
using MS Excel, the Bloom cutoff, and SPSS (PCA). KII was carried out to offer potential
remedies for lowering barriers in the construction of public-school buildings. Potential
respondents of the eleven public school building projects that were chosen were given the
checklist and questionnaire to identify the current state of safety practices and barriers to
implementing safety practices in separate sections.
Study determined the present status of safety practice in public school building were
moderated level from the perception of worker and employer. Similarly, this study found
that the institutional deficiencies were the major barrier to implement of safety practices
explained total variance 58.602% with eigen value15.823 by using principal component
analysis with SPSS. Barriers can be decreased in public school building construction
projects by promoting a culture of safety, improving safety management procedures,
enhancing safety knowledge, resources, and communication, and amending and strictly
enforcing laws and regulations from a policy level.
