Abstract
Stakeholders in the construction always use the standard forms to monitor and regulate the
contract. The obligations and expectations may sometimes differ what the actual assumption
made during the project formulation. Effective contract administration imparts the formal
legal background for the practitioner to regulate the contractual obligations. It also guided
for the misunderstanding and interpretation errors during the contract implementation.
Hence, the research was conducted for the status of the contract administration process of
the Karnali River and Koshi River bridge projects under Department of Roads.
Questionnaires are primary data collection tools that were distributed to the contract
administrators, engineers and management members of the projects followed by descriptive
and exploratory research design. Key Informant Interviews (KII) related to the project and
experts from the administration sectors were taken as primary data sources. Secondary data
were collected from literature reviews, content analysis, journals, books, internet searches
and respective project offices. The qualitative data of the questionnaire were analyzed using
the descriptive method, Relative Importance Index (RII) and Likert Scale. The results from
the research are presented in the form of tables, graphs and charts.
Key informant’s interview (KII) was conducted to find out the factors affecting the contract
administration and for the area of the change or modification of the current contract
administration process and set out the principal affecting factor on contract administering.
Lack of knowledge, lack of communication, poor documents, poor recording system,
prompt decision, delay in verification of bills, improper teaming, negligence of the team
member, bargaining and holding the job by least experience of the joint venture were the
major factors identifying for the survey. The results from the questionnaire were presented
and analyzed using the Likert Scale.
The result shows that the qualitative research came up with a finding that the competence
& experience of the contract administrator, understanding contract documents,
communications between the stakeholders, consistent quality control and adequate human
resource capacity had a significant impact on the projects about the contract administration
of the bridge projects. The success of the contract mainly depends upon the parties driving

the project, their experiences, dedication and mutual understanding. The continual hard
work of the team members, supporting teammates and influential team leader dives the
project to the victory. The role of the administration of the contract is mainly avoids
disputes, complexity and misinterpretation.
